Well, today is not just any day, but the start of Ramadhan, the holiest month in our calendar, the muslim calendar.
i still have my first memory of Ramadhan. my first Ramadhan. i was like nine or ten, and i hadn't much of a clue on what it was. Those days, i was my parent's baby and so, it was a little hard for me to fast. they fussed over me and tried to convince me to take it slow if i felt i couldn't make it through the entire day. i didn't make it the entire day, but the two years later, when i was eleven, i managed to make it through half the month before i got sick.
Ramadhan is the most special month of the year, and it is because this is the one time when we can connect with God at a closer level. it makes our faith stronger, and denying oneself food also has its medicinal values. the most important thing about Ramadhan is that one gets to pray as often as possible, because salah and fasting always go together. besides, the Qur'an is read and some people get to complete it, which is no mean achievement.
all in all, i do wish all the muslims out there a wonderful and uneventful Ramadhan.
much love,
Zainab
