Dreaming of When...

Well, it might come as a shock to you... or not.

I love writing. A lot!

When I was younger, I had this "magazine" in my diary where i wrote about things happening in school everyday. It was pretty funny when I look back at it. I wrote it in a very... weird way.

The title of my magazine was "RumourMill" and believe you me, i though it was pretty cool.

Everyone who knew me then probably thought I'd end up as an English Major or something close to that like Law and Journalism or Mass Media.

I ended up in EVH.

I don't mind it because now, I write articles and put them up. Oh, I have to write an article but I haven't got a clue on what to write.

Unless it becomes a poem.

~*~*~*~*

So, i was checking my email the other day, and sifting through trash... yeah, trash because most of them are from Hi5 and Tagged. (Don't ask, and, no, I am not kinky neither do i have a non-existent lovelife) when i came across a Soundcloud email addressed to me.

It wasn't my first time seeing one like this... but it was the second time getting a notification on the downloads on one of my sounds.

It was Sautisol's "Lazizi" which i recorded over a year ago. Poor sound quality but still...

It made me realize that maybe what my sister has been saying all along really is true. People really wanna hear my voice... right?

Or I ma just dreaming?

I wondered if I should de-activate the "download" button but I decided... nah. I will do something better instead. I will sing a song by them to celebrate 1000 downloads and I am still thinking of a Camp Rock song to sing to celebrate the 100 downloads of ":Our Time Is Here"

Yes, I know, I should stop. You probably don't wanna know this.

~*~*~*~*

Then, the cherry on my pie.

I told you that it's been like a year since i first posted on Blogger. In celebration of that, I am going to add one more little thing to my everything here.

So far, I have been posting...
> poetry (sometimes)
>normal rants and what what
>links to my soundcloud
>links to my twitter (?)
>links to my youtube.

I decided to add something new... like...
>song lyrics!

Who's excited? Woohoo?!

~*~*~*~*

Yesterday, the DeSilvaGroup tried to invite me for a mentorship program that runs for a whole month... then again, maybe i did not get that right.

I have been voting for Sautisol like the crazy girl i am. No, i am not a groupie, I just zealously support people i believe in. I don't mind looking silly. I would rather be laughed at for someone I believe in than for nothing I believe in.

Weird quote over there.

Anyway, so they asked me how they can thank me and I won't lie, I was speechless, so much that i wrote "well..." because I didn't have much to say. My tweets portray every single thing I do. I won't lie, it actually felt weird being asked to name whatever gift or favour i needed in return.

I do not want any favour.

All i want is a friend. or friends.

I wonder why the world thinks everyone got a price.

How do you sleep at night?

Anyway, i was appalled by this. I mean, is it that people do things for them while expecting something ALL THE TIME? It is sad, i think it really is.

Away from my rant about gifts and what not, my mum's birthday is on December. (I brought you back to gifts again, lol) and I have no idea what to get her.

I am not freaking out. I usually get people earrings but my mum tends to lose hers all the time, so... I still have to think. I can't get her perfume because her doctor told her to avoid strong scents.

UGH!

Now i am freaking out!

~*~*~*~*

That title up there does not go whit my blogpost today. I am distracted. I have to go. BYE!

A Little Bit Of Everything

Hey everyone!

How are you doing today? I hope you are okay? I am doing great, really am. I know I have been quite quiet for a while and you guys probably do not fancy it, but... here I am now.

I have been busy studying, and catching up with school. I have also been writing "SOTH" whenever i get a break. Been voting for SautiSol on the side too... Let me stop.

I have made some videos too, tried to find time to make more... I hope to be able to do that tomorrow. I have this special request someone made to me and I haven't covered the song yet. I feel like a bad bad person.

Even then, I came up with this mash-up. I think I might put it up sometime soon when I have worked out a way to sing it without pissing my mum off. And my sister.

Then next week might be presentations and... holy molly, i haven't lost enough weight to fit into my clothes!

~*~*~*~*

I am currently writing a book called, "Poetry By Ynab" and it was previously called "Are We Cool?" coz back then, I did not understand which name i would name my first analogy of poetry.

I have also been writing song verses whenever I can... it is both exhilarating and exhausting. Problem is, will my producer even want to listen to them?

If not, then I have a YouTube Channel... I will sing them on there, kind of Pentatonix style... lol, I am obsessed with Pentatonix you guys. How can people sound so beautiful and perfect without beats?

Its... beautiful acapella.

I would love to try that someday.

Oh, and I should get some funny Dave Days or Kimmi Smiles videos. I know, they are both hilarious!

~*~*~*~*

Well, with that to say, "A Little Bit Of Everything" is not a little bit of everything without a poem... right? Well, its been a while, so... if it looks weird, just imagine I am a turkey trying to escape Thanksgiving while skiing on a snow ski. YEAH!

you can barely see the pain
crossing her eyes as she sobs
she has learnt to hide her vain
so much that even if it hurts she looks like she's happy.

The world turned her to this
she carefully camouflages a hiss
i look at her and see fear, anger and hate
but in one blink she changes her fate...

or does she?

Be Unique

When I was younger, my mum would look at the lot of us and tell us, with a serious face, that she wanted us to understand that we were different, and even though we did not have many friends, we were unique. She kept preaching that we had to be unique about everything we did, said, or lived.

When I got a little older, and got shipped off to boarding school, i almost lost that identity. However, somehow I found it because, well, sometimes when you are over the edge you seem to see how much bigger the world is. Not how much farther your rocky deathbed is below the cliff.

I have always been a sucker for good language command, especially with the English language. There's nnothing better than watching someone speak to you while keeping all the aitches in place.

I would SO love that.

Anyway, back to the story, a unique person has their own scale of measurement. By that I mean that you cannot measure their essence according to what others have. They set new sets and standards for everyone else. By this, I mean that they are record holders.

How unique do you want to know i am? Well, firstly, I am one of the few people who will tell you the truth and not show you how I really feel.

Crazy but true.

I am also capable of bottling in everything. Just today morning, I came clean with my parents that I had my allergy way before high school. Rhinitis makes the sinuses enlarge when you are exposed to an allergen. This makes it hard to breathe. There are times it is so painful, you find yourself crying. When the blockage happens, no sleeping position seems comfortable.

Once again, back to the story. I hide things and only tell them when I want to. Worst case scenario is when I am on the hot seat and everything has to come out and I am still somehow holding cards to my chest.

Third, I am pretty good at singing, but then, being a girl, I am pretty much bi-polar. So today I am like, "look at me, I can dance and sing" tomorrow i'm like, "don't you DARE tell me I am a good dancer or singer. I am DREADFUL!"

I was told that comes with losing self-confidence. It is probably true, I got loads of self confidence issues.

.
.
.

I am kind of tired. Shall we resume soon?

Away from that, I have this crazy thought about today.

You see, I paid to attend FAMSA (Federation of African Medical Students Association) and today is the last day. I am going to attend it from morning to evening, minus the dinner because, well, I don't even know where I am sleeping, what to wear to dinner and who's going to be my escort.

Apart from that, my escort will probably ditch me anyway. Unless they are loyal or smitten.

No one really is.

I am a blonde too you know!

So, after going through my closet, I found a few options that my mum and my sisters thought were not good for dinner. Eventually, we decided I wear what I am wearing today, but my mum said she'd get me a dress today. I decided today morning that I don't wanna go.

Not because I want to piss my mum off. That is plain mean.

I came to that decision because I realised I don't frigging fit into any clique. I am kind of a wanderer. My uniqueness probably makes it harder for people to sit next to me. -> meal times are meal times. No talking looooooong stories <- Yesterday I went for lunch and found myself all alone in a crowd of people, half of whom I do not know...

This is the one time I habve felt completely alone and lonely. SO much that I wished I had carried a colouring book and a set of crayons or lots of half-filled codewords and crossword puzzles.

That is how sad my life can get sometimes.

Anyway, I am going to keep doing my thing.

.
.
.

Switching into rockstar mode... loading... loading... loaded

I have a few things to say today. They are about my career. If you do not like me singing, then I suggest this is the time you should bail out and go to my next blogpost.

1.) KibanyaG FINALLY got the studio up and running. Big-up to my buddy and producer. I love you too! xoxo

2.) Double The Z got featured on KibanyaG's blog. I didn't see that coming. :-)

3.) "Our Time Is Here" a Camp Rock Cast Cover i did just hit 100 downloads on soundcloud two weeks ago after a year of being there. WOW! Thank you everyone who downloaded it!

4.) MinorSoul were supportive about my videos. Cannot wait to do more

5.) I got featured on CoverBattles for my cover of the incredibly talented Clean Bandit. I sang "Rather Be" and believe me, it was a lot harder than it seemed because it was my first time doing a karaoke song.

6.) I got two fans on Wattpad over my story #SOTH "Slave Of The Heart". They are so sweet!

7.) I continued writing songs... and for some reason i keep thinking that if i made an album, it would be titled "bullets" or something

8.) I found out that I am a rhythmical song writer. I have great command in language and i can make an amazing pop singer. WOW! I was blown away by that synopsis. Then I can't be a good rockstar. I know, super-bummed too.

9.) I have 84 views on my MinorSoul cover, "Beneath My Skin". YEIY!

10.) A friend of mine, actually make that two, love my singing. One of them inboxed me on facebook while the other commented on my link saying he wanted to share it on IG.
I could be famous on instagram!

Okay, i am normal. I was just quoting Jason Derulo from "wiggle"

Yeah...

I am shivering over the keyboard today lovelies. And I am so sleepy... I really hate mornings. They are so cold and since I ditched my pills and potions, the cold just seems to make me more and more irritable every day.

This is worsened by the fact that right now, my moods are SO not stable because I have been so angry at everything since Thursday.

I had a CAT then. It didn't go so well, neither did it go so bad.

We are talking about being... crazy work here. I hated how silly i felt after it. Then there's the fact that I can not have fun because my parents are kind of depending on me and my young abled sister to make supper.

I am still so tired. I just need one day per week to sleep in.

That's all I ever wanted...

~*~*~*~*

Yeah, so I keep a diary

I know, as if writing here is not enough.

My dad gave me an old, new diary last Friday. He knows i love to write. Maybe in his own little way he is encouraging me to go after it.

The writing I mean.

After all, this writing saved many more people than you'd know... like my crazy group. My supervisor found out about me being the donkey... and he seemed quite upset about it.

Like I said, I just need a day to sleep in and forget who the heavens I am.

I am so cold... I need a pillow and a teddy bear to come warm me up.

Farmer Girl AHOY!

Hello everyone!
Well, everyone who reads this blog.

There is a HUGE problem with our Kenyan Farmers. They still believe that commercial crops give them a lot of money.

Well, that was back in the 90's and 80's. Before everyone started growing the same thing for the same purpose.

Rift Valley, for example has potential for many more crops other than tea, coffee, maize and wheat. Central, or what was formerly Central, has good climate for green house crops. Western can support a lot more than just sugarcane.

At least I believe that.

And with all the technological advancement the last 30 or so years seen in the agricultural sector,  we can make our farms and gardens anywhere so long as we can tap into Mother Nature's unlimited sources of power. We have seen Israel grow their own food, and we have seen Turkana discover oil... I think it's time we used all he free wind, solar and earth to it's maximum potential.

Why?

Well, because these are things God gave us, and whatever God giveth, we should useth.

Wait, is useth even right?

><><><><>

On my way to school, today, my mum looked at the pathetic earth road and shook her head. Then she looked at the crops that looked really stunted growing on the parcels of land by the road. Again, she shook her head.

My mother teaches Social Studies and she came from an agricultural background. I trust her eyes very much. She started to talk about monocropping and cash cropping and the effect it has on the soil's nutrient level. I was like, "preach it momma!" of course in my head, but the point is, even the older generation that used to migrate in the equatorial forest used to leave the patches of land they grew their crops in to regain fertility.

Which brings me to my next point. Why can't people try mixed farming? Or they plant other crops, especially legumes in between the cereal crop's lines. This will help maintain the nutrient level of the soil.

While talking about nutrients, did you know that certain plants only grow in VERY fertile soils? These are mushrooms and a certain vegetable that is found in old milking parlours and outdoor holding pens. They are kind of slimy, (it is not mrenda) and they are very nutritious.

I have never had mushroom, but my dad and elder sister seem to have very good memories of consuming the indigenous species. They are smaller than the ones in supermarkets. I have, however, not eaten any. This is surprising, considering the fact that i eat almost everything and anything.

That is what boarding school does to you.

Anyway, I have to go. I have a reasearch proposal meeting to chair.

Later!

My Little Love: My History With Music

Since time immemorial, in my mind, music has always had this ability to balm my soul. Yes, shocker, I love it so much, and it is about time I got a little bit over my fears on... being a little open about myself.

I guess you'd say I was a weird last born. Most of them love attention. Well, not me, I never wanted to be the centre of too much attention. Sometimes  think I had confidence issues because I felt mediocre. I know you wonder why I'd be that way, but that is a story for another day.

Today the stereo is playing and I am smiling all the way to my books. Yes, I am multi-tasking, a bad habit I so love!

I really love music and singing. However, I am picky about what I listen to. That is why I sit down and ask myself why someone would sit down and come up words that are derogatory to the grammar of a language or borrow from another one.

That's not the point. My point is that I have loved singing since I was a kid. I don't know why I never took part in Music Festival but I do know that during rehearsals, some girl didn't seem quite happy about me being around so I quit and went to start another career.

Not important.

Anyway, back in Primary school, there was this group I had with my friends. I think we were named Children Of God.(Yes, that sounds just about right.I schooled in Lugulu Girls' Boarding Primary School by the way. Halla at anyone who went there between 2003 and 2005.) We all loved singing. For me, that was the time I realized that music and singing was a gift that could ease people's minds. We would get on stage and sing and dance. Yes, I was super shy for some reason, and I never believed myself.

My group was made up of Sheilah Khaemba, Yvonne Ayore, Esther Walinywa, Jackline Khaemba and Hildah Osike. At some point we had a girl called Sarah and Jackie's sister Elizabeth. Yes, I quit the group on a Sunday Morning because of my shyness. I loathe myself for walking out while we were all on stage. I will never forget how bad I felt. Never.

However, on our last week before KCPE, we and another singing group which was quite sensational got together and sang two songs for PPI. Well, it was just the members of the group who were in class. I stood next to Sheilah and Elizabeth who happened to be from the other group. That was the day I realised that I could sing. I heard my voice resonate against the walls of the class and for some reason, everyone turned to look at me as I stood at the front, ducking my head from view as i sang the second verse of 'There Is A Candle'.

When I first auditioned for a position in the choir team back in form two, everyone stopped and turned. I pretended not to have noticed.

The room was silent. You could hear my heart beat.

You'd think that I'd have learned to trust myself and believe in my talents by now, but you're wrong. I have one HUGE problem: Stage fright.

Where am i going with this? Well, last year, I went to meet Kibanya G and while we were learning the song, this guy who lived next door came over and told me that my voice was so sweet, he just had to see who was singing. He looked shocked and he sat outside for a while as we practiced. Yes, that should have reassured me but I just can't help thinking that maybe I am not as good as everyone thinks I am.

My mum's gotten an allergy I have been plagued with for YEARS. It starts as Rhinitis and if kept in the same conditions and in contact with the causative agent, which is mostly allergens, then you develop Asthma. Or that's the rumor. Rumor has it.... Rumor has It... *singing*

Is this because of my confidence issues? Or i am too shy? Do I have modesty?

~*~*~*~*

Okay, so my rant is crazy.

Anyway, apparently, it is one of the things that make me beautiful.

Yes, scars make people beautiful.

So... you already know my history with music, now, my history with singing is merged with it.

Whenever I am upset? Music

Whenever I am happy? Music

Whenever I am studying? Music

Whenever I am waiting for the lecturer? Music

This may or may not be accompanied by singing. I know... it is just who I am. My parents are not as sweet as Zayn's who'd put up with his singing at 3am.

Look now he's a professional singer.

There's Maher Zain too, who I love. His music is so inspiritual. It is so sweet how his music can make me cry.

Yes, I cry when I listen to beautiful music. Who doesn't cry when they see, do or hear a beautiful thing?

So, what are my plans right now? Well, I don't think I can separate music from Zainab. It is food for my soul, it is a universal language. You might say you don't listen to music, but do you listen to the thudding of your heart? the tapping of rain on the roof? Do you listen to the call for prayer? Do you listen to quranic recitations? do you listen to laughter from your loved ones?

That is all music.

All the sounds we find pleasant to our ears are music once we fall into its rhythm. So long as a certain continuous sound loosens your muscles, it is music.

God is good, he put music all around us and we don't even notice it!

Have a musical time, okay? Love you!

Jeez, That was NOT a holiday!

Yawn...

that is how i woke up today.

I am so NOT ready to open school. Everything that i experienced in the last two or so months seems like a blur to me. I won't lie about that!

Do you want to know why i didn't want to get up today morning?

It was so cold, i couldn't feel my toes. Yes, combine that with running around while looking for one shoe to take too a cobbler. Despite my decision being final, it was overruled.

Makes you wonder why you even bothered to explain and make a decision,

Right now i can tell you that i want nothing more than to go back to bed. the internet connection here is so slow. I am uploading another Youtube video as i update my blog. Multi-tasking at its best? i guess not.

Oh, so i have a wattpad account. Or two. Lord, i am so greedy, i admit i wanted to do something different and boom! I did! I have a fan, she is from Syria. Her enthusiasm for my stories makes me feel so special. Yes, squint all you want, i really don't care. It is what i did to pass the time. The means justify the ends. wait, i just said that to sound all fancy!

As i said, the holiday went by in a blur.

MAY.
I spent the last two weeks of the first month worrying over my proposal and my results. Did i tell you i went back to jogging on the last week of May to keep my weight down? Yeah, iot only happened like thrice in the last week.

JUNE
Yes, i think i was still jogging. I had cleared out the proposal and i was finally settling and adjusting to fit in with my holiday schedule. Which basically means: no schoolwork, just housework and loads of stretching feet time. I also started the worst behaviour in the world for a plus-size girl: dabbling in tea cup affairs. Yes, i love tea, but i cut down on it because if i don't, i can get really fat.

During the same month, we started to watch World Cup and I opened or re-opened my hair salon for family business.

I also got to see my eye-doctor and he recommended me to switch to contacts. Yes, i got a monthly pair in my eyes right now. Everything is so much clearer... watch me wave it all goodbye, goodbye...

JULY
This is when we fasted the holy month of Ramadhan. I may or may not have gained weight. I also spent a lot of time soothing my ulcer aches. Yes, my salon was still open with my vivacious sister, Zurah, being my main focus weekly, and my mum being a fortnight visitor.

We celebrated no birthdays except my best friend who went to Kimana and my other friend called Jack from Minor Soul. Okay, i may or may not have him as a friend, him and his brother of course, but i like to flatter myself and this is my blog, so let me fool myself in my flattery.

Yes, i also got my results. I am a 4th year now, meaning in a few years, i may be getting my Masters if i work really hard at it. One of my friends is doing his in Australia and i really wanna do the same thing- go for Masters after finishing my Undergraduate as soon as possible.

Then, i finally joined whatsapp.

AUGUST
In the last three days, I have made a new friend thanks to wattpad. I have also talked to Minor Soul and Sautisol a couple of times.

I am working as an Editor-In-Chief for my school magazine and i am also singing on the side. My producer said he was out getting some new production toys. I can not wait to work with him.

I also visited my dentist numerous times. Okay, not numerous, just like four times in a span of two weeks. He just saw me last Saturday. (02-08-2014)

~*~*~*~*

I lost a friend during this holiday. He became mean and distant. We share a birthday. He insulted my faith and i do not hold it against him. i just hope that somehow he will figure all this out and become the good guy he used to be.

I also lost almost lost a good friend-cum-admirer of mine. Gosh, this has been one of the holidays that has seen a lot of changes and growth... okay, not growth. I have to stop this!

I can wisely say that i have learned to deal with loss. I lost my chancof going to SFS Kimana (School of Field Studies) somewhere near the border of Kenya and Tanzania. It has a sister school in Tanzania.  I could not stop crying and being stressed about it, but i got over it, eventually, when i realized that Allah has a plan for me. So now, I am waiting for another chance. If i happen to do my Masters here, in Moi University, I just might go for it if i get considered.

I can also wisely say that I put myself to the test and realised i am multi-talented. I am still learning how to rap though. I wanna be like Cher Lloyd. She is so perfect... Okay, now, i have to pretend i can't hear you guys... but i still #ReallyDontCare because I love Demi and Cher.

Now, my hands are sore. I gotta go. I could sleep here but i can't. I have another blog to update. One Direction are coming to South Africa next year. Oh well... I wish I could celebrate finishing my fourthyear there... is that possible? Do i hear a plane ticket and all paid trip whistling in the wind? Yes? plus a concert ticket? Yes?

May the good Lord be with you.

May the forces of the Universe bathe and cover you.

Love,
~Me

Busy Body Being Busier

Well, good morning to all the bloggers!

Yes. I have been away for a long, long time, with good reason. If you follow me on Twitter you'll know that it is my major domain now.

However, that's not all. I have been spending time reading stories more than writing them when i am free. I spend at most 2 hours reading or writing a story just before i go to sleep. The reason being that if I did it at any other time, I'd be unable to pres the trigger.

Yes, i am working on a new book... Or books. I have written it since December. I have never taken this long to write a book... I used to write a book in One Month, without grammatical errors. Anytime i read my opld books, i fall in love with them more than i fall out of love with my new ones.

You all know i also post covers on Soundcloud. You have probably subscribed or not... I am cool with it. I love you for making the effort if you did. My account name is long, so its best if you type: "Zainab Kadesa-Soundcloud" to get what you want. I don't post covers on YouTube because well, i find it very complicating. Just so you know, I don't autotune myself or pause and resume. I do 1 take recordings.

I am also a new EHSAMU Editor-In-Chief. Yes, you guessed right! I applied. No one else did. So far, i have done 2 articles for the organization. I need a new topic to write about.

I also got followed by Minor Soul. Go check out their music, they are like major cool! I know, no exaggeration. Between you and me, I love them alot because they are easier to talk to than anyone else, and they retweet me whenever they can. I don't tweet them just coz i am lonely or anything, I do it because i love and believe in their music. Yes, music can heal people and theirs does the job PERFECTLY! Their debut album is on iTunes and also on bandcamp. You can download for free or buy to support them.

Finally, I started a new show. It's called "Double The Z" and it's twitter is @Double_The_Z and we talk about everything under the sun. Or try to. I wonder what we'll talk about next time...

If you wanna join the DTZ, just coonect with us on soundcloud. Look for Double The Z and i hope you will find us. Or follow us on Twitter so that you can keep tabs on us and follow us whenever you can. We even give relationship advice. Is that enough to help you click on the 'follow' button?

Gotta go, my class has probably started. Bye people.

Love

Diary Entry 10: I Can't Be Tamed

Humming to "Can't Be Tamed" is what i'm doing today morning. I'm not saying that i can't be tamed, coz i really can't...but its coz its just a song in my head.*** Everytime i start singing one song, it leads to singing another, and it ends with "shut up!"*** I still can't be tamed, i can't be blamed, i can't be tamed... Okay. STOP*** By the way, a big thank you to all the people who read my blogs. I am thankful.

how Friday the 7th went

HOW FRIDAY THE 7TH WENT.
So, we had our EHSAMU elections last Friday, and I must say, it was one of the most interesting experiences I have had in a while. That is the reason why I came up with the idea of writing about it so that maybe, next time, more people will take part in the process I’d advise anyone who wants a front row seat in seeing how elections and the vote counting process behind closed doors is done to apply for the post of agent to a contestant. It is an eye-opening experience, and worth every minute of the balloting.

EHSAMU is the student body connecting Environmental Health Students to the alumni and sometimes, to the Administrative offices. I am an EVH student, so on Friday 7th March; I went to exercise my powers as a student in helping choose new officials for the New Academic Year, 2014/2015 starting after the this semester.

Elections
The elections started a little past 10am and went on till 2pm. The students voted manually and via phone. The process went as thus: you gave your registration number, and they’d cross out your name on the list. Next, you’d proceed to the next stage to get the voting papers (more like slips) and then to the ballot boxes to cast your vote. After this, you were allowed to leave the vicinity and go encourage other people to vote.

This was my first time being an agent. It was a thrilling experience to say the least, especially when I spent the day learning a lot about people, and making some new friends. I also got proven wrong when I realized that some people who wore serious faces all the time actually had a sense of humor. Their names have kindly been withheld for security purposes.

The elections were free and fair, that’s what someone else would say, but all the agents know we were too busy heckling the voters so they’d choose whoever we were standing for. It resulted in a lot of threats of getting banished, or getting thrown out by the Electoral body. It might have been a little scary, but looking back at this experience, I think that was the most fun I had on my birthday.

Announcing the Winners
After every balloting process comes the counting. Whether it was by a show of hands, or by casting of votes, the winner is always the one with the most votes. Once the boxes get turned and the votes leave their temporary safety, there’s no turning back. This is when we all start to get nervous. We shut our eyes, hide our faces, or leave the room if the door hasn’t been bolted yet.

I found myself in that position when they’d finished the process. Due to our small number, we were done with voting in hours. The process of counting begun and the contestants all had their nervous moment. Even I got butterflies when they did the counting! I can safely say that the votes were all counted correctly, and it was uneventful.

Out of all the five posts, the third year class secured three while the second years got the remaining two. I have to admit, it was a very tight race for all the contestants got some decent number of votes.

End of the Day
After a little dancing, and maybe singing, the contestants all went round congratulating each other for giving each other a run for their money. Meanwhile this lady was dancing in her seat in anticipation of her birthday presents. Too bad no one sang me a Happy Birthday song. Oh well, there’s still next year. However, at that time, Austin won’t be there to share the special day with.

I was pleased with the turnout this year, and I’m happy that we managed to get ourselves out of our “Its Friday” mood and came out to vote. Anyone who votes should be proud of themselves for deciding to help make a change by doing something about it instead of sitting on their laurels and howling about how bad the leadership is running their organization.

I’m especially proud of all those who took a risk and put their ideas out there by declaring their interest in the seats they wanted. It takes courage and faith to go against the flow and ignore the things people tell you to do something as big as that. I salute anyone who has ever done a thing like this. And if you haven’t, well, there’s room to be different.

Friday was a significant day. Not only did I meet someone I share my birthday with, but I also spent the day in pleasant company. I also learnt a few things that I never would have picked up within the four walls of a lecture hall.

At Present
I’d like to thank the following people: Moraro and Austin for encouraging me to do this article, Gilbert Kilaho for being my walking dictionary and everyone else who wished the two birthday kids happy birthday. EHSAMU might be done with elections till next year but MUSO is the next big thing for us all. Meanwhile, we’ll all be rooting for our candidates when we are not studying for CATS and exams, right?

EHSAMU stands for Environmental Health Students Association of Moi University.

When It Rains, it pours

I guess i can tell you guys something that happened to me last week. I was unwell when i sat for the exam. And i was cursing womanhood the entire time. So i sat for the exam, despite the fact that i was feeling unwell.*** So, guess what a huge surprise i got today... Yes, i was thoroughlly surprised to find i'd gotten really low marks. The last time i had marks these low was during drawing, and also IRD. The biz course. Even when im sick, i NEVER really fail a CAT. My penmanship always gets me out of tight spots. *** Clearly, today isn't my day. I have my duties as a group leader to play, and my other role as the happy-go-lucky girl who loves veing happy... *** I NEED A BREAK. I really do

Exhilaration

well, my silence can well be explained. First, i went to a studio and recorded for the very first time. Then, i got to go to a wedding, and i looked so pretty! then, i made my way through a cold and now... yes, i am still freezing.

I don't really have much to say, coz i have a CAT tomorrow.

I am excited though. I will do a short 'interview' here. Kibanya aka Kigs, this is for you.

oh, by the way, i am signed to Edge Records. And my twittah is @Ynabeesa and you can totally find me there. Okay, not sounding creepy, but, yes its like my official twitter for the future.

okay, so here is the 'interview'
~*~*~*~*
Interviewer will be represented by the italics. my answer will be bold.

I: Hello, you're Zainab and you have recently done a stint with Kibanya G of Edge Records. How is it going?

Me: Hello I! Its been going great! i am still feeling like a firework over here. (Remember Katy Perry's Firework...)

I: Tell us something about yourself

Me: i love music?

I: rather obvious. Anything the world doesn't know?

Me: i am actually scared of microphones. i don't know why, i just am.

I: can you dish anything about your future plans?

Me: yeah. first, i need to read for my CAT on Solid waste, its tomorrow. today is Thursday, right? I would like to do more music both for my soundcloud and for the label. wow, i sound really professional!

I: You like the Jonas Brothers, right? (Zainab nods) well,Tell us something about Jonas Brothers?

Me: well... i was heartbroken when they broke up, yah know? anyway... did you know they are actually brothers?

I: who doesn't know that?

Me: eh... maybe someone? (winks)

I: What would you describe your sound as?

Me: i am, in love with what Demi does. And i think that's pretty  much a sum-up. i love Teen pop, soft rock, RnB, some rap that has to be clean. i still wonder what House Music is though...

I: What do you think when you are standing behind the mic in studio?

Me: Oh My God... i just might mess out... Now i am totally freaking out!

I: Do you think anything of the Kenyan Music Industry?

Me: well, they play Demi these days... (smiles sheepily) and i must say its changing. with people like Marly's Flaw, Nick Ndeda, Just a Band, Kibanya G... there is so much more we can do. I will admit i have a bias towards Rock, but that's coz it was the only decent music i grew up listening to. I am a little reserved with Hiphop rap coz yah know...cuss words...

I: What are you doing now?

Me: updating my blog... studying... fake talking you after inventing you... hey, can i go? i'm super tired!

I: (shaking head) well, that was Zainab in studio with us. Do you have a stage name yet?

Me: i don't. not planning on having one either... Sorry. That's just me! (singing) Who said, i can't wear my converse, with my dress, oh baby, that's just meee...! (fades off)

I: Bye!

~*~*~*~*
Yeah, laugh all you want... i admit i am a little insane! Bye Hipstas! that song i ended with was a Demi Lovato song called 'La La Land'. Ok, bye!

Diary Entry 9: Stop And Stare

I've been a little startled by the amount of attention i've been getting in the recent past. You know, the suggestive looks random guys throw at a girl? Yes, they are very disturbing. And do you know what's even more disturbing? Wait for it... Being talked to by one of these random guys!*** Honestly speaking, if I don't know you, I am NOT going to call you. Let's just say, I don't REALLY talk to strangers. Especially suspicious characters. So, if you're kind of shady, don't expect ANYTHING from me. My mama taught me better than that. *** If you got good intentions, or none at all, we are good! (That's just for the record. I follow my guts, i am woman)*** So, it has me wondering, why are people staring at me everyday? Everytime? It never used to be that way. I have always tried to blend into the background. I tend to be a "Behind-The-Scenes" person. I am not much for appearances, personality gets me ALL the time. If my clothes are decent, my face okay, no weird make-up, why ARE YOU LOOKING AT ME?! Just stop!

Diary Entry 8: Money Money Money

Its true, money runs THE world. I have spent a few days with people who, well, run on money. It made me wonder about all the things money can do. *** Money buys everything, from school fees to health care, and even some happiness. Inebriated happiness, to correct myself. By that, i mean being drunk. No, okay, maybe yes, Ed Sheeran style. *** But in MY world, money is the LEAST of my priorities. Okay, its not the first, but that's a something, right? Yes, i have to buy bundles to post this post, but for me, it seems like i have too many thoughts running through my head. Like, how to do dishes. Yup, how to do dishes. *** I know money is the root of all evil. And sometimes, its good evil. Yes, like keeping a terminally ill person alive. That's good evil, right? HOW? The money is evil, but its use is for a good cause.*** Maybe there is more than just, "its evil", huh? I think i've given you something to think about.*** Just for the record, you need no money to have fun. Yes? No? I believe. If you don't, oh well!

the French Touch in Kenya

Bonjour, toujours je parle sur Alliance Francaise. Oui, Alliance Francaise et le office a Eldoret. Oui, je ne pas reflechi mon francais, but i have tried. ***** I know, i speak some French, but it takes FOREVER to remember stuff. Yes, i dropped it in 2008, so i'm mega rusty. We are talking 6 years. I had a passion for the language but i dropped it coz my teacher said i wasn't very good. But i was doing it with like 10 other subjects and we all know i love English more...***** So, i went to Alliance Francaise with my BFF coz she's a student there and they have a new play so she wanted to have a role. One of the guys asked me my name in French-i think he was trying to impress-and i replied in French. ***** I think i surprised you. With my broken French up there. Yeah? No? Okay, give me a break! My last lesson was 6 years ago! Impressed? You should be. I am Zainab, i'm pretty, unique. I meant Pretty unique. *****Okay, now i sound vain. Bye!

Water Really Is Life Part 1-Not Exaggerated (I'm Not Kidding, To be continued)

Have you ever spent a day, or days, without water, or being unsure about water distribution? Have you ever been so thirsty that you feel you could die?***** I have, i used to be in boarding sch somewhere in Western, and we all know the story there is usually water, water everywhere but none is safe enough to drink!***** "You never miss the water till the well runs dry" This happens every year to us, during Christmas Break and at the beginning of the year. The dryness makes it worse. If the absence of piped water offsets us this much, imagine how the people from the slums feel every year. They are promised pipe water every time we have elections. We were supposed to have adequate water supply to slums by 2000 but 14 years later we got nothing!***** Water is life, we all have a right to access clean water. I wonder how the govt can sit down and plan how to build a railway when we are not even able to access clean drinking water. Can i safely say that this is the tale of two... countries?

Diary Entry 7: Inspiration

Good morning! I am smiling all the way to my school because, oh well, yesterday ended well. I spent the day with people who inspire me.***** My day began badly, i forgot my phone and couldn't update my blog. Then my lecturer came late. After that, i lost my keys, then i got late for my meeting.***** The meeting went well-i still do covers on the side. And yes, i walked instead of hitting the gym (which i'll be doing today) and i had a ball.***** I feel inspired today, so much that i will probably have tomatoes and veggies for supper. I am partial to them, ha-ha. ***** The vegetables are essential for growth, and they give good skin. And tomatoes, are just delicious.***** You know that moment when your lecturer starts to declare that his course is hard and that people never pass? And you're like, 'shut up!' You aren't gonna listen coz he aint the boss of you! Who's had that moment? Coz i have! I decided not to listen coz last time i did, i failed...horribly.***** You aint the boss of moi!

Let's Waste Time... (Welcome To A New Dawn) ~I wrote this this year. Its new and inspired by "Chasing Cars" its on my faecbook. This blog is a lil bit of everything. Oh, on that note, i have a link to my soundcloud. Check it out sometime. https://t.co/rhC7fWu1HN Okay, bye!

"...Let's waste time Chasing cars around our heads..." Let's let's waste time sitting by the water Chasing cheesy jokes down our throats with a bottle of orange juice. Right here, just the two of us just you and i... Let's waste time window-shopping against the back-drop of Burj-Al-Arab or The Big Ben Doesn't matter where, or when don't matter how, why, Let's just do it... Waste time Let's waste time being you and i even when you irritate me when i'm singing "I want" or "Just In Love" Doesn't matter if we fight, we are both young and we are doing all the time wasting hoping to live forever young but not achieving it coz we are mortal. Let's waste time acting up and out fighting with each other for reason unknown making up coz its something we love and we have to do it Let's waste time being sisters We only got today to see and now to live for. We might not be forever young we might be wasting time but we are who we are we are what we are Let's waste time Chasing cars fighting monsters and having fun

Diary Entry 6: temporary peace

So, today i feel... GREAT! You are probably wondering why. Well, first, i posted something weird on my facebook group. I am the adminstrator (OMG I am mi own baas! :-p take that!) ***** Then, my sister came a-visiting and brought me... Wait for it... COOKIES! I feel like the stars aligned coz someone brought me something i am craving. Its called being a woman high on hormones! ***** Then, i kind of almost yelled at someone pushing me too hard yesterday and he got the hang of the whole "i am a crazy hormonal woman now, leave me ALONE or i will hit youuu" and i was like, "huh, i am in B-L-I-S-S!"***** I don't care if my bros are ignoring me. I don't. Wait, i kind of do. But who cares? Can't i just be happy without remembering that emptiness i feel sometimes when i'm online and i wanna DM them but then i know they probably won't see it... But now Pharell Williams comes into my mind and does that happy little dance he does in "Happy" and i forget...***** Just so you know, i am NOT intoxicated. Just moody.

Animal Rights Part 1

I heard that the new constitution has animal rights, or rather, we can no longer get rid of rabid dogs unless we have no option. ***** Being a public health student , vaccinating people against rabies will soon be my job. I practice preventive health, meaning i should lobby for regular immunisation of animals and human beings. ***** Did you know that you can spend upto Kshs2000 treating Rabies for humans while you can spend less than Kshs500 vaccinating your animals? Why wait till you get bitten by YOUR animals so you can spend ALL that money when you can vaccinate your animals with just Kshs100? You do the maths my friend! ***** Finally, i just wanna point out an incident i saw the other day... A dog got run over the other day, and you wonder why i did nothing? The dog's neck was hit, displacing the cervical vertebrae. Any time i see an animal crossing the road, that image replays in my mind. *****Do you know what pisses me off? Giving animals rights but subjecting them to these same conditions! UGH!

Diary Entry 5: Uncertainity

Ok, so maybe things seem to not be going as great as i sometimes make it seem to be, but i get it, thats life. ********************* So, i must say that things haven't been going great. I can't disclose anything at the moment, but it feels better saying how bad its been. ***** Sometimes i find myself wondering why i try so hard to be so ... quiet, it never works. Yet, i find comfort in this behaviour. I can't say i hate the confused look on their faces. Its humorous. And now the lecturer walked in. Gotta go, bye!

I'm Not Your Typical Girl... Erm Person

So, yesterday was a little... Weird. Oh, i forgot to wish y'all a happy new year, but that has to wait. I have less than 1024 characters left (i am using my phone for this update)

As always, i got asked if i was seeing someone. (I hate that question) I replied in the opposite of affirmative (i mean 'no') and he told me i was lying. Hold up, you aren't me to tell me i am lying! So i asked him why he thought i'm lying. He replied that all campus girls have a man in their lives. I was like, yeah, but i am not all campus girls. I have come to treat my singleness as a holy thing. Weird, huh?

Well, why be with someone just coz all your friends are in relationships and you aren't? I can't stand lying to myself. And that's why i am NOT your TYPICAL GIRL. While i was still in high school, i was always in my own world, and nothing has changed.

You aren't a matatu running on a schedule, so don't screw you up. Be unique, be you. Don't be the typical girl. Stand out, be yourself.

Love, xoxo

Sincerely, ~Me

AutoTweets Are KILLING me!

Yesterday was a normal day for me till when i went to check my DMs on Twitter out of, i don't know, curiosity. I was loading my profile page thinking to myself that maybe someone who i was waiting to talk to might have DMed me. Imagine my happiness when i saw 5 messages waiting, only for me to load my DMs and find an auto-DM spree had happened minutes before that.

I changed my password like three to four times in the last 24 or less hours, hoping that would throw them off. I must have been dreaming when i thought i wouldn't fall for it!

Right now, i am at risk of losing my account because of a stupid auto-tweeting website. It tweeted all my followers, or most of them, i believe. I am devastated, but there is nothing much i can do. I had to revoke access of Wattpad, Google, Fanfiction and other in order to try and save my marriage oops, i meant my account.

I don't even know if its gonna work.

i will have to wait.

I hate waiting.

I am yawning, i have to go and watch over my Twitter account some more. And yes, if you are still curiously asking yourself if i am on franol, then the answer is Yes.

See you later Tweeps. Wait, not tweeps, Bwoggeees? okay, that is just weird. Later my little sweety boparas!

Love, xoxox

Sincerely
Me

Diary Entry 4: Stuck

So, today is a bright morning. And as is always with school days, the temptation of sleeping-in is strong. But i had to fight it otherwise i'd not be able to get to school. I'm still on Franol and apparently it makes you sleepy for like half an hour. Sounds like something i should take before bed. ------------------------------------------------- So, i heard that the taxes we will pay to maintain the happiness of some county personnel are really ridiculous. Some of my friends mentioned kuku tax. (They are luhyas. Clearly, kuku/chicken are mboga/vegetable to them) Its weird, what are they gonna do with all that money? As if we aren't already over-taxed! Stupid politics! ------------------------------------------------- I was humming to "Lovebug" by the former Jonas Brothers (to understand them, check out some of my previous posts) and i have no idea why i'd sing that. But you know me, i just think of it and do it. Singing i mean. Ugh, gotta go. Talk later. Love, xoxox --------- Sincerely, ~Me

Diary Entry 3: Anything Else Today

Remember that Adam Lambert song "What Do You Want From Me" ? Well, i have had that question in my head for a while. Just like he says, he gives her everything but it ain't enough. Have you ever had such a scenario? Where you give your all but it isn't enough to get it all? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I have spent a huge part of my last 14 days in this New Year thinking that maybe i am going round things the wrong way. Maybe this year i should chill. Stop being a hot-head or something. But if i am a hot head, that means i have no brains and nothing but hot air in this head! Maybe i should learn restraint? Does that mean i have to where a halter on my mouth? Is that even possible? Or should i bite the insides of my masseter muscles till they ache? I don't know. I really don't. Anything Else? Love, xoxox Sincerely, --->Me

Diary Entry 2:Pesky Allergies

I know, i am starting to sound like a rabid dog. But i can't help it. The barking i mean. I took some Franol (my mum gave it to me, so i am not so sure that's its pronunciation) and apparently it makes one sleepy for a few hours. Reason being, well, i spent my entire holiday in a house under renovation. I am allergic to dust and paint. And this entire month has made both my mum and I unwell. So, i spent the first few hours dozing off and waking up. In my state of exhaustion, i forgot to check what time class starts, and now guess what? I am 54 minutes EARLY. So i am in a lonely corridor, without my self-sufficing backpack, bored and alone, updating my blog. Hmm, i really hope its safe here. Or else... You will be saying goodbye to me now... Okay, i am not going to bother you with my weird problems. Just so you know, i'm still irritable-effect of the allergy. So if i explode in your face, don't blame me! Love, xoxo Sincerely, Me

Dear Diary: Entry 1- Happy New Year

This year, i intend to avoid getting bothered by little things. Yes, happy new 2014 to you too, i must say. Its been a tough journey everyone. But now i have a new browser on my phone and i can update my blog while on the go. ... I intend to improve my writing skills, probably start contributing to Health Digest (that will make someone somewhere happy) and i intend to cement, more than anything, a good rapport with my followers on twitter. ... I also intend to be as serious as possible with blogging. Yes, A Little Bit Of Everything should be A LITTLE BIT OF EVERYTHING. Sugar, spice and everything nice! Wait, i don't mean to be making powerpuff girls... Wait, i am making powerpuff girls! ... I sound like a politician. Or these can be termed the "rantings of a 21 year old" hmm, that sounds fitting. Maybe i should start another blog with that name! Oh well, gotta run. I have school starting this week. I also want to be Miss Responsible this year. And maybe a Miss Know-It-All too. Hmm... ~~~ Happy New Yr ME
